U.K. and France Join Warning and Surveillance Activities Against Illicit Maritime Activities including Ship-to-Ship Transfers

From mid-February to late March, the British Royal naval frigate HMS Montrose engaged in warning and surveillance activities in waters surrounding Japan including in the East China Sea to counter illicit maritime activities including ship-to-ship transfers with North Korean flagged vessels. The JMSDF and British Royal Navy cooperated with each other by sharing necessary information.

France also joined the surveillance efforts against ship-to-ship transfers by deploying Falcon 200 reconnaissance aircraft in mid-March and the frigate F734 Vendémiaire this spring.

The MOD/JSDF continues to cooperate closely with related countries to fully implement the relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions.
