Program Outline
Period 2 – 13 February 2026
Location Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) facility in Hells Point, Honiara

Delegation 4 personnel from the Indo-Pacific Regional Policy Division (JMOD), 4 JGSDF personnel from the Ordnance School, 2 Officers from Ground Staff Office and 1 expert from NPO Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS)

The objective of this project was to contribute to enhancing the explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) capabilities of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force and to ensuring the safe and reliable execution of their missions, as well as to preventing accidental incidents involving unexploded ordnance (UXO) among the people of Solomon Islands.

To this end, knowledge was shared with personnel of the EOD Unit of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force regarding the structure and functions of munitions used by the former Japanese military and the Allied forces. In addition, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force conducted mutual demonstrations on UXO disposal procedures, thereby deepening mutual understanding of each other’s technical expertise.

Furthermore, with the cooperation of the NPO Japan Action Mine Service, one specialist participated in this project and, in coordination with dispatched personnel of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, shared knowledge with the members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force on methods for providing risk education on UXO to civilians. Subsequently, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force applied this knowledge to conduct UXO risk education for approximately 50 residents of the Mbokonavera community, working to prevent accidents caused by UXO.

Japan will continue to promote defense cooperation and exchanges with Solomon Islands and contribute to the peace and stability of the country.
