Defense Minister Nakatani visited the Republic of Djibouti, Türkiye and Jordan from August 17 to August 21, 2025. Below is the outline of the visit:
1 Meeting with H.E Mr. Omar, Foreign Minister of the Republic Djibouti
Defense Minister Nakatani held a meeting with H.E Mr. Omar, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Djibouti. The two ministers exchanged views on the regional situation and concurred to work closely together.
2 Meeting with H.E Mr. Hassan, Acting Minister of Defense
Defense Minister Nakatani held a meeting with H.E Mr. Hassan, the Acting Minister of the Republic of Djibouti. The two ministers concurred on continuing defense cooperation and exchanges between Japan and Djibouti.
3 Meeting with H.E. Mr. Dileita, President of the National Assembly
Defense Minister Nakatani held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Dileita, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Djibouti.
4 Courtesy Call on President Guelleh
Defense Minister Nakatani paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti and expressed his gratitude for the longstanding support from the Djiboutian government regarding the operation of the Self-Defense Forces’ facility.
5 Site Visits to SDF Facility
Defense Minister Nakatani visited the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) facility in the Republic of Djibouti. The facility has been in operation since 2011 and continues to grow in importance as a base for counter-piracy operations and the transportation of Japanese nationals and others overseas.
6 Wrench-laying at Anitkabir
Defense Minister Nakatani laid a wreath at Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding President of Türkiye.
7 Japan–Türkiye Defense Ministerial Meeting
Defense Minister Nakatani visited Türkiye for the first time as a Japanese Defense Minister and held a Defense Ministerial meeting with Minister of National Defense Güler. The two ministers concurred to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation and exchanges through a wide range of engagements, including at the high-level, working-level, unit-level, and among technological authorities.

8 Meeting with Mr. H. Görgün, Secretary of the Secretariat of Defence Industries
Defense Minister Nakatani held a meeting with Dr. H. Görgün, Secretary of the Secretariat of Defence Industries. They exchanged views on the potential future cooperation in defense equipment and technology between Japan and Türkiye.
9 Site Visit at Istanbul Naval Shipyard
Defense Minister Nakatani visited the Istanbul Naval Shipyard.
10 Japan–Jordan Defense Ministerial Meeting
Defense Minister Nakatani held a meeting with Dr. Hassan, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Minister Nakatani expressed his appreciation for Jordan’s support in the transportation of Japanese nationals and others overseas by the Self-Defense Forces, and both ministers concurred on further advancing bilateral defense exchanges in the future.
