From September 2 to 6, Parliamentary Vice Minister of Defense Miyake visited the United States. The summary is as follows. Note that date and time in below is EST.
1. Arlington National Cemetery
On Sep 2, PVM Miyake visited Arlington National Cemetery and laid a wreath. The Cemetery is the final resting place for approximately 400,000 active duty service members, veterans and their families.


2. Roundtable with Distinguished Defense and Security Experts
On Sep 3, PVM Miyake visited Stimson Center. He participated in a roundtable discussion with Ms. Yuki Tatsumi, Co-Director of the East Area Program, Stimson Center, Mr. James L. Schoff, senior director, Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA and other distinguished experts, and exchanged views on broad topics regarding the security environment and challenges surrounding the Japan-U.S. Alliance.


3. U.S. Naval Academy
On Sep 3, PVM Miyake visited U.S. Naval Academy, renowned for its long tradition since 1845. MSDF Officer Candidate School and the Academy have been exchanging students since 1971 and learned from each other. PVM Miyake encouraged MSDF officer and students at the Academy.


4. Northrop Grumman
On Sep 4, PVM Miyake visited Northrop Grumman. PVM Miyake received an overview briefing on its space projects and toured the related facilities.

5. Discussion at U.S. Department of Defense
On Sep 4, PVM Miyake visited U.S. Department of Defense and exchanged views with Assistant Secretary of Defense Dr. Ely Ratner. They discussed concrete efforts to modernize the Japan-U.S. Alliance based on the agreements between the Ministers at “2+2” meeting held in the end of July in Tokyo.

6. Exchange of opinions with Distinguished Defense and Security Experts
On Sep 4, PVM Miyake invited Mr. Murano Masashi, Japan Chair Fellow, Hudson Institute, and had a broad discussion on current security situation surrounding the Japan-U.S. Alliance and efforts to further strengthen deterrence and response capabilities of the Alliance.
