On October 26, commencing at 16:00 for approximately 45 minutes, Minister KOIZUMI held a Defense Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo with H.E. Mr. Antti Häkkänen, Minister of Defence for the Republic of Finland.
- At the outset, Minister Koizumi welcomed Minister Häkkänen’s visit to Japan, and Minister Häkkänen expressed his appreciation for the realization of this visit.
- The two Ministers welcomed the signing of the Agreement on the Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology between Japan and Finland and confirmed to advance cooperation in the field of defense equipment and technology between the two countries.
- Minister Häkkänen provided an overview of Finland’s defense policy in light of recent developments in the international security environment, while Minister Koizumi shared Japan’s defense policy in response to the increasingly severe security environment. The two Ministers also exchanged views broadly on the security environment surrounding their respective countries.
- Furthermore, sharing the view that the security of the Euro-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific is inseparable, the two Ministers agreed to continue close coordination and to further deepen defense cooperation and exchanges between Japan and Finland.
