On 26 August 2026, Minister of Defense Koizumi held the inaugural trilateral virtual meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence of Australia the Hon Richard Marles MP and Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. General (Hon.) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.
The Ministers exchanged views on the security environment in the Indo-Pacific region and, looking across the entire Indo-Pacific, confirmed their commitment to working together among the three countries in order to jointly contribute to regional and global peace and stability.
The Ministers welcomed the strengthening of defense cooperation among the defense authorities of Japan and Australia, Japan and Indonesia, and Australia and Indonesia. They also confirmed the importance of maintaining close communication among Japan, Australia, and Indonesia, and concurred on advancing trilateral defense cooperation among the three countries.
