On July 7, Minister Koizumi, who is visiting Türkiye to attend events related to the NATO Ankara Summit, held a Defense Ministerial Meeting with Türkiye’s Minister of National Defence, H.E. Mr. Yaşar GÜLER.
- At the outset, Minister Koizumi expressed his appreciation for Türkiye’s efforts as the host of the NATO Summit and his respect for the important role Türkiye plays as a leading regional power.
- The two Ministers welcomed the steady progress in defense cooperation and exchanges between Japan and Türkiye in a broad range of fields, including high-level reciprocal visits, service-to-service exchanges, and defense equipment and technology cooperation. They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation and coordination between their respective defense authorities.
- The two Ministers also concurred on pursuing the development of a Memorandum on Defense Cooperation and Exchanges, based on the Statement of Intent on Defense Cooperation and Exchanges signed in 2012, in order to further advance bilateral defense cooperation and exchanges.
