On June 24 2026, commencing at 16:20 for approximately 60 minutes, Minister of Defense Koizumi held a meeting with the Hon. David J. McGuinty, Minister of National Defence of Canada.
- At the outset, Minister Koizumi welcomed Minister McGuinty’s visit to Japan since March this year and expressed his satisfaction that the two ministers have been able to meet frequently, maintain close communication, and build a strong relationship of trust.
- Minister Koizumi referred to Japan’s revision of the Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology and their Implementation Guidelines in April this year, and expressed his appreciation for Canada’s support for this revision.
- The two ministers welcomed the recent entry into force of the Agreement between Japan and Canada concerning the Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology, and concurred to continue discussions toward generating new defense equipment and technology cooperation projects, building on this momentum.
- The two Ministers concurred that they will further strengthen their close cooperation toward deepening Japan-Canada defense cooperation and exchanges.
