On May 30, Minister Koizumi, who is visiting Singapore to attend the 23rd IISS Asian Security Summit (Shangri-La Dialogue), held a Defense Ministerial Meeting with Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Rt Hon John Healey MP.
- Both ministers welcomed the steady progress of Japan-UK defense cooperation, and confirmed to continue closely working together to further strengthen bilateral defense cooperation including GCAP.
- The two ministers also discussed regional affairs, reaffirmed that security of Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific is inseparable, and confirmed that they would work closely together to create a security environment that does not tolerate unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force.
