On April 1, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defense Yoshida received a courtesy call from Admiral William Houston, Director of the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, and welcomed him on his third annual visit to the Ministry of Defense. Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defense Yoshida expressed his appreciation for the safe operation of U.S. Navy nuclear-powered vessels and for their significant contribution to Japan’s defense and to maintaining and strengthening the deterrence and response capabilities of the Japan‑U.S. Alliance. They exchanged views on the regional security environment surrounding Japan, reaffirming the importance of close cooperation between Japan and the United States.
