From 14:00 to 14:35 on Wednesday, April 8, Defense Minister Koizumi held a video conference with Republic of Korea Minister of National Defense Ahn Gyu‑back.
The two ministers exchanged views on the regional environment, including the current situation surrounding Iran, and the missile launches by North Korea. They also confirmed that Japan and the ROK, as well as Japan, the United States, and the ROK, will continue to cooperate closely.
Minister Koizumi expressed his appreciation for the ROK Air Force’s assistance in transporting Japanese nationals, and conveyed that peace and stability in the Middle East are of critical importance to both Japan and the ROK. He also emphasized Japan’s intention to work closely with the international community, including the ROK, in addressing these issues.
The two ministers confirmed their intention for the defense authorities of both countries to continue close cooperation.
