On February 13, commencing at 11:00 a.m. (local time) for approximately 25 minutes, Minister of Defense Koizumi, who was visiting Germany to attend the Munich Security Conference, held a Japan–UK Defense Ministerial Meeting with the Rt Hon John Healey MP, Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom.

  1. The two ministers welcomed the holding of their first face-to-face Japan–UK defense ministers’ meeting with Secretary Healey. The two ministers confirmed to continue working closely together based on the first-ever Joint Statement on Cooperation between both defense authorities to further advance cooperation in broad areas ranging from defense equipment cooperation including the strategically important project of Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) and cooperation between all services such as joint exercises.
  2. The two ministers also reaffirmed that security of Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific is inseparable, and confirmed that they would work closely together to create a security environment that does not tolerate unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force.
