On February 22, 2026, Defense State Minister MIYAZAKI Masahisa held a meeting with Hon.Mr. Leonito Bakalando Jr., Secretary of Justice of Micronesia, visiting Japan for the “3^rd Japan-Pacific Islands Defense Dialogue.” The summary of the meeting is as follows:

1. At the outset of the meeting, State Minister Miyazaki stated that Japan and Micronesia are valuable friends connected by the Pacific Ocean, and are partners that share values and principles such as freedom, democracy and the rule of law. State Minister Miyazaki mentioned that he would like to continue working closely with Micronesia.
2. Both Ministers welcomed steady accumulation of cooperation in the defense field, especially those regarding maritime security, and concurred to continue strengthening cooperation in the area.
3. Both Ministers affirmed the importance of deepening defense cooperation and exchanges between Japan and Micronesia, taking full advantage of opportunities such as JPIDD.
