On December 10, commencing at 18:30 (Japan Time) for approximately 30 minutes, Minister Koizumi held a Defense Ministerial Video Teleconferencewith H.E. Mr. Guido Crosetto, Minister of Defence of the Italian Republic.
- At the outset, Minister Koizumi welcomed the reunion with Minister Crosetto since the Japan-UK-Italy Trilateral Defense Ministerial Meeting in late Novermber and expressed his resolve to deepen the Japan-Italy relationsip in the increasingly severe security environment.
- Both ministers confirmed thir commitments to cooperate for the success of the Global Combat Aviation Program (GCAP) and their intention to further promote Japan-Italy defense cooperation including bilateral exercises and defense equipment and technology cooperation.

Both ministers also discussed regional security environment. Minister Koizumi briefed the radar incident that occurred on 6th December when Chinese military aircraft intermittently illuminated JASDF fighters with radar and the Chinese-Russian bombers’ joint flight from the East China Sea to the Pacific that occurred on 9th December and shared his grave concerns over these. They concurred to strengthen the bilateral defense cooperation relationship for peace and stability of the region and to have a face-to-face meeting in the future.
