On November 12, 2025, from 18:15 for approximately 35 minutes, Minister of Defense Koizumi paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Rabuka of the Republic of Fiji in Tokyo.
The summary is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister Koizumi stated that Fiji is an important partner for Japan, sharing fundamental values such as freedom, democracy, and the rule of law. Minister Koizumi also expressed the importance of Fiji’s role as one of the few countries that has its own military in the Pacific Island region and stated his respect for Prime Minister Rabuka’s leadership. In response, Prime Minister Rabuka expressed his gratitude for the support provided by the Government of Japan to Fiji.
  2. Minister Koizumi welcomed the fact that, starting this fiscal year, Fijian cadets have been enrolled at the National Defense Academy of Japan, andexpressed his desire to strengthen defense cooperation based on such personnel exchanges. Both Minister Koizumi and Prime Minister Rabuka reaffirmed that cooperation between the defense authorities of Japan and Fiji—centered on maritime security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief—contributes to regional peace and stability, and agreed to further enhance collaboration between the two countries.
