On November 1, Defense Minister Koizumi Shinjiro, who is visiting Malaysia for attending the 12th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM Plus), held four countries (SQUAD) defense ministers’ meeting with Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Richard Marles, Philippines Secretary of National Defense Gilberto Teodoro and United States (U.S.) Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
We affirmed the importance of Japan, Australia, the Philippines and the United States working together to deepen various activities in the maritime and air domains among the four countries, thereby strengthening deterrence and response capabilities in the region.
We had intensive discussion to regularly hold a JPN-AUS-PHL-US Defense Ministers’ Meeting.
The Ministers and the Secretaries also shared the efforts made by each country, and discussed reginal issues of common interest and opportunities to expand cooperation.
Under the increasingly severe security environment, it is indispensable to collaborate with the ally and like-minded countries for the regional peace and stability. Japan Ministry of Defense will continue to optimize various opportunities to further strengthen the cooperation.
