On October 7, 2025, Defense Minister Nakatani held a Video Teleconference with Philippine Secretary of National Defense, Gilberto Teodoro. The summary of the meeting is as follows:
At the outset of the meeting, Minister Nakatani offered his condolences to the victims of the earthquake that occurred offshore the Cebu island on September 30, and expressed his sympathies to their families and all those affected.
Following the opening statement, Minister Nakatani stated that the JSDF will, upon request from the Philippines side for assistance in delivering support goods, be utilizing its JASDF aircraft participating in the Bilateral HA/DR Exercise Doshin-Bayanihan5-25 to deliver them to the nearest airport from the affected area.
In response, Secretary Teodoro stated his appreciation toward the support by MOD/JSDF.
The two Ministers welcomed that the application of the Japan-Philippines RAA, which came into effect on September 11, to the exercise and the delivery of support goods demonstrates the deepening relationship between Japan and the Philippines. Additionally, they confirmed their commitment to continue working closely together, based on the spirit of OCEAN, to contribute to maritime security as well as regional stability and peace.
