From October 21st (Tue) to December 19th (Fri), we conducted a capacity-building project for members of the Djibouti National Defense Force Engineer Battalion, aimed at enhancing their capabilities in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HA/DR).
As part of this project, personnel from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Eastern Army were dispatched to the Engineer Battalion’s garrison (Camp Engineer) to provide the battalion members with the knowledge and skills necessary for operating and maintaining heavy equipment during flood events and similar situations. Additionally, officers participating in the project received training on how to develop education and training plans, enabling them to acquire the knowledge and skills required as instructors.
For the first time in this project, ODA-funded heavy machinery provided to Djibouti was used to support the implementation of more effective training.
Through this project, we will continue to strengthen cooperation between the defense authorities of Japan and Djibouti.
