The Ministry of Defense and the Japan Self-Defense Forces invited three air traffic control officers of the Mongolian Air Force to Japan and conducted a capacity building project on air traffic control at the 5th Technical School of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.

This project was implemented with the objective of strengthening the air traffic control capabilities of the Mongolian Air Force by providing instruction in the knowledge and skills related to air traffic control operations of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, thereby contributing to the stability and safety of the airspace in Mongolia and the surrounding region.

During the approximately eight-month training period, the three Mongolian Air Force officers engaged earnestly in lectures and practical training, achieving a remarkable improvement in their knowledge and skills in air traffic control. In addition to professional interaction with instructors, they lived together with Japan Air Self-Defense Force students in the student barracks of the 5th Technical School, sharing daily life and meals. Through this experience, they deepened their bonds as comrades who truly “shared the same pot of rice.”

The Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces of Japan will continue to contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Japan and Mongolia.
