On August 21, 2025, commencing at 10:50 for approximately 45 minutes, State Minister Honda held a meeting with State Secretary to Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Norway, Mr. FLÅM.
- At the outset, State Minister Honda welcomed State Secretary Flåm’s first visit to Japan. State Secretary Flåm conveyed his appreciation to State Minister Honda for hosting the visit.
- State Minister Honda welcomed the deployment of Norwegian Navy frigate “HNoMS Roald Amundsen” to the Indo-Pacific region as a part of the UK Carrier Strike Group (CSG) and making port calls to Japan for the first time. He also delivered appreciation for the active high-level exchanges that have been taking place since the Japan-Norway Defense Ministerial Meeting was held last year for the first time in approximately 40 years.
- The meeting included a discussion on bilateral defense cooperation and exchanges. They shared the view to further promote defense cooperation and exchanges in various areas including the high-level exchanges, unit-to-unit engagement, defense equipment and technology cooperation, space-related cooperation, and cooperation through NATO.
- They concurred to continue to work closely together towards further deepening Japan-Norway relationship.
