Schedule of the UK Carrier Strike Group 25’s visit to Japan

1. UK Carrier Strike Group 25 (CSG25) led by HMS Prince of Wales will make port calls to Yokosuka and Tokyo from August 12th to September 2nd. The vessels of the CSG25 visiting Japan will be UK aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, UK destroyer HMS Dauntless and Norwegian frigate HNoMS Roald Amundsen. This is the first time for a Norwegian vessel to be deployed to the Indo-Pacific region including Japan.

2. Specific dates and locations of the port calls are scheduled as follows:

  • UK aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales will berth at Yokosuka from August 12th to 28th and Tokyo from August 28th to September 2nd.
  • UK destroyer HMS Dauntless will berth at Yokosuka from August 12th to September 2nd.
  • HNoMS Roald Amundsen will berth at Yokosuka from August 12th to 19th as well as from August 22nd to September 2nd and Tokyo from August 19th to 22nd

The schedules are subject to change depending on the operation of the CSG25.

3. As the security environment surrounding Japan has become increasingly severe and uncertain, the Government of Japan welcomes the visit as a demonstration of the commitment of the UK and Norway to contributing to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, with a view to realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.” It also represents a significant step toward further strengthening Japan’s security as well as Japan-UK and Japan-Norway security and defense cooperation.

4. MOD/SDF will remain committed to proactively contributing to regional peace and stability in close coordination with like-minded partners including the UK and Norway which share fundamental values and strategic interests in order to uphold and reinforce a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” and to tackle global security challenges.
