On June 1, 2025, Defense Minister Nakatani, visiting Singapore to attend the 22 nd IISS Asia Pacific Security Conference (Shangri-La Dialogue,) held a meeting with Malaysia’s Minister of Defence, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Haji Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin. The summary of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset of the meeting, Minister Nakatani welcomed his first meeting with Minister Khaled.
- The two Ministers welcomed the advancements of practical cooperation between the two countries—both as maritime nations—such as the bilateral training between the naval components which they first conducted in February last year and already marking the 5 th exercise in April this year.
- Minister Nakatani expressed his determination to strengthen Japan- ASEAN cooperation in close coordination with Malaysia that serves as the ASEAN chair this year, to which Minister Khaled agreed.
