Since 2014, Japan has supported the development of Mongolian Army Engineer Units for UN peacekeeping operations (PKO). The program has progressed through multiple phases: Phase 1 focused on basic road construction, Phase 2 introduced advanced techniques including drainage systems and instructor training, and Phase 3 aimed at enabling independent road construction.

In 2025, Phase 4 began with the goal of building self-sufficient capabilities for camp infrastructure development. During this year’s training, 14 Mongolian personnel participated in lectures and practical exercises led by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, focusing on foundational civil engineering skills essential for PKO camps.

Japan and Mongolia will continue to strengthen their partnership by sharing knowledge and experience to promote international cooperation.
