Japan-U.S. Defense Ministerial Meeting (Summary)
On May 31, Defense Minister Nakatani and Defense Secretary Hegseth held discussions from 12:00 for approximately 35 minutes in Singapore. The summary is as follows.
Based on their exchange at the Defense Ministerial Meeting on March 30th, the Ministers discussed Japan-U.S. defense cooperation initiative,including the following recent developments:
The Ministers confirmed that they will coordinate closely together to align the strategic priorities of both countries as the U.S. formulates new National Defense Strategy.
Defense Minister Nakatani addressed Japan’s initiatives to improve our cyber security capabilities, including the enactment of Cyber Response Capability Strengthening Act. The Ministers concurred to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation in cyber domain.
The Ministers reaffirmed that they will work closely together in order to
further strengthen the Alliance capabilities to deter and respond.
