On May 28 2025, commencing at 16:50 for approximately 50 minutes, Minister of Defense Nakatani held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Yuriko BACKES, Minister of Defence of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg who is visiting Japan.
- At the outset, Minister Nakatani stated that he was delighted to have a meeting with Minister Backes for the first time since assuming his position. He also expressed that he would like to further develop the partnership with Luxembourg, an important partner that shares the universal value with Japan.
- Minister Nakatani explained Japan's efforts for Euro-Atlantic security, including support for Ukraine, which is facing a Russia’s aggression. He also stated that JMOD is in the process of finalizing the details of specific support to share knowledge on cyber security as part of the educational support aimed at enhancing the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with regards to the cooperation through IT Coalition led by Luxembourg, in which JMOD / JSDF also participate. Both Ministers confirmed to continue working closely to further deepen Japan-Luxembourg defense cooperation and exchanges.
- The two Ministers also exchanged views on the reginal security environment and concurred to stand united against any unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force or coercion against the backdrop of ever more indivisible security environment in Euro-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific.
