I would like to talk about the program managers for breakthrough research. Last October, the Ministry of Defense (MOD) newly established the Defense Innovation Science and Technology Institute (DISTI). This Institute has been conducting so-called “breakthrough research,” which boldly tackles challenging goals while taking risks. Research is underway, led by more than 10 program managers selected through an open application process this fiscal year. Following on from FY2024, we have decided to recruit program managers in FY2025 to plan and manage the progress of the breakthrough research I mentioned earlier. The application period is scheduled from February 27 to March 26. The MOD aims to appoint highly motivated individuals with advanced expertise in a variety of cutting-edge technologies, as well as a flexible mindset that is not bound by conventional wisdom, as program managers. By having such program managers vigorously promote creative and innovative research, we aim to create innovative technology originating from the MOD. Details of the applications have been published on the website of the Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency. We look forward to receiving applications from those who are willing to boldly tackle the creation of new technologies that can significantly transform the future of the MOD and the Self-Defense Forces, and society as a whole.
