On December 4, 2024, commencing at 08:30 for approximately 60 minutes, Minister NAKATANI held a Defense Ministerial Meeting with Minister for Defence of the Kingdom of Sweden, H.E. Dr. Pål JONSON.
- At the outset, Minister Nakatani welcomed Minister Jonson’s visit to Japan. Minister Jonson conveyed his appreciation to Minister Nakatani for hosting the visit.
- The two ministers exchanged their views on regional affairs. Regarding the situation in Europe, Minister NAKATANI expressed concerns over recent military activities around Japan. The two ministers shared the view to further strengthen cooperation against unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force or coercion.
- The meeting also included a discussion on bilateral defense cooperation and exchanges. The two ministers shared the view to further promote defense cooperation and exchanges including the recent increase in high-level and working level exchanges, defense equipment and technology cooperation, and cooperation through NATO.
- The two ministers concurred to continue to work closely together towards further deepening Japan-Sweden cooperation.
