Defense Minister Nakatani held a Japan-U.S. Defense Ministerial Meeting and Working Dinner with U.S. Secretary of Defense Austin on December 10. The outline is as follows.
1.Japan-U.S. Defense Ministerial Meeting
Defense Minister Nakatani held a Japan-U.S. Defense Ministerial Meeting with Secretary Austin. The Ministers affirmed the remarkable progress to date, including the upgrading of respective command and control frameworks, expansion of bilateral presence in the southwestern region of Japan, defense equipment and technology cooperation as well as multilateral cooperation including with Australia and Republic of Korea, etc. Also, they underscored the importance of further strengthening the deterrence and response capabilities of the Japan-U.S. Alliance amid the increasingly severe security environment in the Indo-Pacific region.

2.Working Dinner by Defense Minister Nakatani and Secretary of Defense Austin
Defense Minister Nakatani held a working dinner with Secretary Austin. The Ministers affirmed that Japan-U.S. defense cooperation has been deepened dramatically during Secretary Austin’s tenure, and Defense Minister Nakatani expressed his heartfelt respect and appreciation to Secretary Austin’s tremendous contribution to the Japan-U.S. Alliance.
