On November 22, 2024, Defense Minister Nakatani, visiting Laos to attend the 11^th ASEAN Defence Minister’s Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus), held a meeting with Brunei Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Halbi. The summary of the meeting is as follows:

1. At the outset of the meeting, Minister Nakatani mentioned that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Japan-Brunei diplomatic relations.
2. Minister Nakatani welcomed that defense cooperation and exchanges have been implemented based on the Memorandum of Cooperation on Defense Cooperation and Exchanges, signed in 2023, including JSDF vessels and aircraft’s port calls in Brunei as well as goodwill training.
3. The two Ministers confirmed to continue strengthening defense cooperation and exchanges bilaterally as well as multilaterally including under ADMM-Plus and other multilateral frameworks with Brunei.
