During 13 - 22 November, the JMOD/JSDF hosted eight personnel from the Ministry of Defence Malaysia/Malaysian Armed Forces (MDM/MAF) in Japan for a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HA/DR) cooperation project. The Malaysian delegation observed various activities under the Michinoku Alert exercise conducted by the JGSDF Northeastern Army in Sendai. This included activities such as SCU (Staging Care Unit), LCAC (Landing Craft Air Cushion), and hoist rescue. Participants also gained a deepened understanding of HA/DR collaboration between JSDF and local government (at prefectural and city level). In Hokkaido, the delegation learned about disaster response by the JGSDF Northern Army, and the DMAT (Disaster Medical Assistance Team) activity was explained by the Hokkaido Government Office.Members also received briefing on disaster response by JSDF Sapporo Hospital. Furthermore, as part of this program, the Director for International Cooperation on Women, Peace and Security highlighted the importance of women’s participation and gender perspectives in HA/DR operations. The Ministry of Defense will continue to strengthen the Japan-Malaysia defense cooperation. |
