On October 17 2024, for about 25 minutes from 14:30 (local time), Minister of Defense Nakatani held a meeting with Dutch Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans in Brussels.
- At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Nakatani stated that he was delighted to have a meeting with Minister Brekelmans for the first time after his appointment as the Minister. He also stated that next year marks the 425th anniversary of Japan-Netherlands relationship and would like to further develop bilateral relationship.
- Minister Nakatani welcomed that the Netherlands has enhanced its engagement with the Indo-Pacific region in a tangible manner in recent years. Minister Nakatani stated that the security of Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific is inseparable and would like to further strengthen Europe’s engagement to the Indo-Pacific region.
- In addition, the two Ministers touched upon regional affairs and concurred to further strengthen cooperation against attempts to change the status quo by force or coercion.
- Both sides concurred to further enhance Japan-Netherlands defense cooperation and exchanges.
