On October 8th, Defense Minister Nakatani held his first teleconference with U.S. Secretary of Defense Austin after his appointment as Defense Minister.
Minister Nakatani stated his determination to fundamentally reinforce defense capabilities and strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance, and Secretary Austin welcomed Minister Nakatani’s resolve.
Also, the Ministers confirmed that they will continue to work closely on the important initiatives to reinforce Alliance deterrence and response capabilities based on the “2+2” in July this year.
