On August 27, commencing at 12:45 for approximately 100 minutes, Minister KIHARA held a Defense Ministers Working Lunch with The Hon. Guido Crosetto, Minister of Defence, Italian Republic.

  1. At the beginning of the meeting, Minster Kihara sincerely welcomed Minister Crosetto’s visit to Japan with port calls of the aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and Italian Training Ship Amerigo Vespucci as signs that Italy places special importance on the Indo-Pacific region.
  2. The Ministers concurred to cooperate for a success of the G7 Defence Ministerial Meeting to be held in Naples in October.
  3. The Ministers were pleased that Japan-Italy defense cooperation and exchanges has been deepened in recent years including the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), some port calls, exchange of aircraft, expansion of joint exercises and commencement of formal negotiations on “the Agreement on the Japan-Italy Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA)”. 
  4. The Ministers concurred to continue to work closely together towards further deepening Japan-Italy defense cooperation and exchanges.
