On August 5 from AM 11:00 for approximately 60 minutes, Defense Minister Kihara held a meeting with the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, General Tea Seiha. The summary is as follows. Note that date and time is Cambodia Standard Time.
- At the beginning, Minister Tea Seiha welcomed Minister Kihara to Cambodia. In response, Minister Kihara welcomed his first visit to Cambodia since taking office as Defense Minister and to hold a meeting with Minister Tea Seiha.
- The two Ministers welcomed that Japan-Cambodia relationship was upgraded to “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” on the occasion of commemorating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relationship last year, and the two Ministers presented expectations toward further strengthening Japan-Cambodia relationship including in the security field.
- The two Ministers concurred to promote multilateral cooperation including Japan-ASEAN cooperation, based on the Japan-ASEAN Ministerial Initiative for Enhanced Defense Cooperation: JASMINE that Minister Kihara introduced last November, among other foundations.
- The two Ministers concurred to continue strengthening Japan-Cambodia defense cooperation and exchanges.
