On June 2, Minister of Defense Kihara Minoru held a Japan-U.S.- ROK Trilateral Ministerial Meeting with the United States (U.S.) Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Republic of Korea (ROK) Minister of National Defense Shin Won-sik during his visit to Singapore.

At the meeting, they exchanged views on the situation in the Korean Peninsula and other issues, and concurred to conduct a new, multi-domain trilateral exercise this summer, as well as a trilateral tabletop exercise (TTX) to discuss regional security challenges.

They also concurred to institutionalize trilateral security cooperation, including senior-level policy consultations, information sharing, trilateral exercises, and defense exchange cooperation through the development of a framework for trilateral cooperation in order to contribute to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

The trilateral collaboration by Japan, U.S., and ROK is indispensable for the regional peace and stability under the increasingly severe security environment including the Korean Peninsula. Japan Ministry of Defense will continue to take advantage of various opportunities to further strengthen the trilateral cooperation among the three countries.
