- On March 7, the 1st Japan-Italy Politico - Military (PM) Dialogue was held in Rome, Italian Republic.
- The Japanese delegation was led by Mr. MIURA Jun, Director General for International Affairs, Bureau of Defense Policy, Ministry of Defense and Mr. NAKAGOME Masashi, Director General of the European Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Italian delegation was led by Gen, Enrico Barduani, Deputy Chief of Cabinet / Defence Policy Director and defense Policy Director and Ambassador Pasquale FERRARA, Director General for Political Affairs and Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic.
- The establishment of the dialogue was decided at the Japan-Italy Summit Meeting and Working Lunch when Prime Minister Kishida visited Italy on January 10, 2023.
- They exchanged views on a variety of issues including security and defense cooperation and regional affairs such as the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the situation in East Asia and in the Middle East. They concurred to further strengthen cooperation toward realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)”.
