Japan-Jordan Defense Ministers’ Meeting (Overview)

On February 19, Defense Minister Kihara held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Bisher Hani Al-Khasawneh, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at a hotel in Tokyo. Overview of the meeting is as follows;

At the outset of the meeting, Minister Kihara welcomed Minister Khasawneh’s visit to Japan. Minister Kihara conveyed his appreciation toward the support from Jordan for JSDF’s transportation of Japanese nationals, etc, from Israel and expressed his respect for Jordan which plays a significant role for peace and stability in the Middle East region. In response, Minister Khasawneh welcomed the deepening of bilateral cooperation, including in the defense field, and expressed his expectation for further development.

Both Ministers confirmed that they will further promote defense cooperation and exchanges between Japan and Jordan, which are strategic partners, considering that this is a memorable year that marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Jordan. They also exchanged views on future defense cooperation and exchanges between two countries, and shared the view to continue to closely communicate between defense authorities for the peace and stability of the region, through working-level dialogues and other platforms.
