On June, 2023, Vice Minister of Defense for International Affairs Oka, visiting Singapore to attend the 20th IISS Asia Pacific Security Conference (Shangri-La Dialogue), held a meeting with Secretary of Defence of New Zealand, Andrew Bridgman. The summary of the meeting is as follows.
1 Vice Minister Oka and Secretary of Defence Bridgman exchanged views on the regional security environment including Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and cooperation in the Pacific Islands Region.
２ The two sides concurred on strengthening coordination in the Pacific Islands region between the two countries to realize a “Open and Free Indo-Pacific.” In addition, they concurred on continuing communication more closely between the defense authorities to further develop Japan-New Zealand defense cooperation and exchanges including joint exercises.
