On May 8, Defense Minister Hamada received a courtesy call from General James C. McConville, the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army. General McConville was conferred “Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun” for his significant contribution to the Japan-U.S. Alliance.
Defense Minister Hamada offered his congratulations and showed expectation on close ties between U.S. Army and JDF for maintaining and strengthening Japan-U.S. alliance through active discussions and joint exercises in this severe and complex security environment.
