On April 28, Defense Minister Hamada and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Marles held a telephone conference. The summary is as follows.
Having received an explanation on the recently released Australia’s Defence Strategic Review from DPM Marles, Minister Hamada welcomed and expressed support as its direction contributes to the peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region by strengthening Australia’s deterrence capabilities.
The two ministers affirmed they would continue to vigorously promote bilateral defence cooperation and exchanges in order for Japan-Australia defence cooperation to make contribution even more proactively to upholding and reinforcing the Free and Open Indo-Pacific while maintaining communication between the defense authorities.
