From 17 to 20 October, as part of a cooperation project with the Philippines in the field of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HA/DR), the JMOD/JSDF invited 17 personnel from the Philippine Army to Japan. The personnel visited the JMOD headquarters, and exchanged opinions regarding disaster response with JMOD officials and JGSDF personnel.

Additionally, the personnel learned about various equipment, including HA/DR equipment belonging to the JGSDF Western Army’s 8th Division, 12th Infantry Regiment, 8th Logistic Support Regiment, 8th Engineer Battalion and 8th Nuclear Biological Chemical Weapon Defense Unit, which is used when the units deploy to disaster response operations at JGSDF Camp Kokubu and Kitakumamoto. The participants were also given an overview regarding the JGSDF’s initial response when disasters occur, which deepened their understanding about the JGSDF’s ability to respond to disasters.

The relationship between the Philippine Army and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force was also strengthened by the sharing of knowledge about the effective use and essential maintenance of equipment employed during disaster response.
