Japan-Czech Defense Vice Minister’s Meeting

On June 11, 2022, Vice-Minister of Defense for International Affairs Tsuchimichi, who was visiting Singapore to attend the 19th IISS Asia Pacific Security Conference (Shangri-La Dialogue), held a meeting with Deputy Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic, Daniel Blažkovec. The summary of the meeting is as follows.

  1. Vice-Minister Tsuchimichi and Deputy Minister Blažkovec exchanged view on the situation in Ukraine, and affirmed that the Russian invasion of Ukraine shakes the foundation of international order not only for Europe but Asia as well, and that it is important for the international community to respond firmly against this invasion.
  2. They also exchanged their views regarding regional environment of the Indo-Pacific including China and North Korea.
  3. Vice-Minister Tsuchimichi stated his intention to continue to promote defense cooperation and exchanges between Japan and the Czech Republic based on the “Memorandum Between the Ministry of Defense of Japan and the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic Concerning Cooperation and Exchanges in the field of Defense”, as well as to work towards cooperation through NATO and the EU.

  4. Japan will further develop defense cooperation with the Czech Republic which is a partner sharing common values, and together will contribute to uphold and reinforce a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
