On January 20, Defense Minister Kishi and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hayashi held a Japan-France "2+2" with Minister for Armed Forces of France Florence Parly and Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Yves Le Drian via VTC.
The 4 ministers exchanged views on items such as bilateral security/defense cooperation and regional issues. Following the meeting, Joint statement was released.
In recent years, France has strengthened its engagement to the Indo-Pacific region in a tangible manner, through deploying naval assets and conducting joint exercises. Japan will continue to actively cooperate with France to uphold and reinforce "Free and Open Indo-pacific".
