Pre-deployment training (PDT) and Capacity building (CB)

• Lt Gen Carlos Santos Cruz (ret) (Brazil), a former Force Commander of UNPKO missions in Haiti and DR Congo, and Mr. Mark Pedersen, the Chief of the Integrated Training Service in the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations, delivered presentations emphasizing the importance of PDT and CB. Their participation maximized the value of the meeting.
• Japan introduced its PDT/ CB activities such as its contribution to UN Triangular Partnership Programme, and other training conducted by JGSDF.
• A small group discussion was conducted in order to foster active and inclusive dialogue, and to encourage the sharing of knowledge and experience among all member states.
• Japan and Vietnam announced that FTX 2023 will focus on Military Observer Exercise with medical and engineering elements. The co-chairs reaffirmed their commitment to oversee the smooth planning, preparation and implementation of the FTX in close cooperation and consultation with member states.
