2021 The 4th Japan-ASEAN Seminar on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (Online)
On 20 April JMOD and defense authorities of ASEAN member states held the Japan-ASEAN Seminar (Online). Participants shared the experience and knowledge gained from their support to national COVID-19 relief efforts and deepened their mutual understanding.

The JMOD and JSDF conducted the 4th Japan-ASEAN Seminar on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HA/DR) with participants from all ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat. The program took place in accordance with the “Vientiane Vision 2.0”, the guiding principle for Japan-ASEAN defense cooperation, and has been running as an invitation program since 2018. Due to the COVID-19 situation, this year’s seminar was conducted online and focused on sharing knowledge gained by each defense authority during the pandemic. The participants from both Japan and ASEAN memberstates/the ASEAN Secretariat, possessed expertise in military medicine and/or commanded operational military units involved in the national-level response to COVID-19. The participants were briefed on JMOD/JSDF efforts to support COVID-19 prevention measures, shared insights into the role of the ASEAN defense authorities had played in support of national COVID-19 relief efforts, and conducted group discussions on related topics.
