Department of Development
Ground Systems Development Division
Department of Ground Systems Development is in charge of the development of ground based weapon systems and equipment for ground warfare such as firearms, artillery, combat vehicles and C4I systems except for guided weapon systems.
Naval Systems Development Division
Department of Naval Systems Development is in charge of the design of naval ships and development of naval weapon systems and equipment.
Aerial Systems Development Division
Aerial Systems Development Division is in charge of the development of aircraft, aircraft engines, avionics and other components.
Joint Systems Development Division
Department of Joint Systems Development is in charge of developing various types of guided missile systems and equipments
Department of Naval Ship Design is in charge of designing new type combatant ships, sub, arines and other naval ships.
Research Centers
The Air Systems Research Center conducts research, test and evaluation on aircraft, related components and missiles.
Ground Systems Research Center
The Ground Systems Research Center conducts research, test and evaluation on combat vehicles, engineer equipment, firearms, ammunition, ballistic and blast resistant structures.
The Naval Systems Research Center conducts research and technical evaluation of naval ships, underwater weapons, acoustic equipment, magnetic equipment, and underwater electric potential equipment.
Future Capabilities Development Center
The Future Capabilities Development Center(FCDC) covers research and test & evaluation on innovative technology for the equipment and supporting cross-domain operations. FCDC also covers defense electronic equipment used in all physical domains. It conducts cutting edge researches on information and communications including cyber related technologies, electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) based sensing technologies for devices/components, and their system integration, in order to support C4ISR and EMS operations of Joint Staff Office, GSDF, MSDF, ASDF, and the Defense Intelligence Headquarters in the high-tech era.
Test Centers
Chitose Test Center supports aerodynamic characteristics tests and engine performance tests on aircraft or missiles, and mobility tests on combat vehicles.
Shimokita Test Center supports performance tests of firearms, artillery, ammunition and explosives.
Gifu Test Center supports flight test evaluation of aircraft, aircraft engines, avionics, other components and missiles.
