Electromagnetic Spectrum Management Technology

Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) Management Technology is one of the key technologies to achieve EMS superiority in newly defined EMS domain. FCDC has been working on a new technical basis, from both technical and operational standpoints, for effective and efficient use of EMS contributing to enhancement of Electronic Warfare capabilities in a congested, contested and constrained environment.

High Frequency Over-the-Horizon Surface Wave Radar (HFSWR)

High Frequency Over-the-Horizon Surface Wave Radars (HFSWR) enable earlier detections of ships and airplanes approaching to Japan’s territorial airspace and waters beyond its line-of-sight distance of a conventional radar, therefore improve persistent surveillance performance at low-altitudes and sea-surface areas.

High Energy Laser System

The high-energy laser system irradiates high-power laser beams to high-speed targets and instantly damage them. Compared to conventional countermeasures e.g. missiles, it is possible to increase the chances of interception and deal with threats coming from directly above. As shown in figures, the system tracks high-speed maneuvering targets with an IR camera, irradiates a converged high-power laser beam to the target until it is destroyed.

The Iioka Branch is in Asahi city, Chiba prefecture, located at 60 miles to the east of Tokyo. Various types of research and test and evaluation are conducted at the 50 acre site that is ideally suited for experiments in the radio wave environment.

Radar Reflection Characteristics Evaluation Technologies

The technologies aim at evaluating stealth performance of aircrafts, naval vessels and vehicles, and which are mainly composed of outdoor RCS measurement and computational RCS simulation. These are necessary to develop new equipments, renovate existing equipments, study operations and design stealth platforms.
In our outdoor test facility, we can measure RCS of large scale targets.
