The 3rd Peace Operation Workshop of FY 2020

On December 1, 2020, the Japan Peacekeeping training and research Center (Director: Col. OSADA Eiichiro) held the 3rd Peace Operation Workshop of FY 2020, inviting Dr. SHINODA Hideaki, professor at the Graduate School of Global Studies, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
Under the theme gpeace operation partnerships and multilayered international security systemh which is one of the trends in todayfs United Nations peacekeeping operations, the workshop, aimed at acquiring knowledge necessary for research on international peacekeeping operations, was this time attended by members of the Secretariat of the International Peace Cooperation Headquarters, Cabinet Office; Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Joint Staff; and the Ground Staff Office as well as the JPC.
The workshop was held while taking anti-infection measures against the novel coronavirus, including avoiding the gthree Cfsh (closed spaces, crowded places and close-contact settings.)
In the workshop, Dr. SHINODA gave a lecture on the theme from the academic perspective, which was followed by active opinion exchange and Q&Afs among the attendees.
The JPC will reflect the result of the workshop in its training and research projects.

Jordanfs military attache to Japan visits JPC

On November 30, 2020, Jordanfs military attache to Japan, BG Ibrahem ALDEWIKAT visited the Japan Peacekeeping training and research Center (JPC).
In the presence of Commandant of the Joint Staff College LTG OKIMURA, the JPCfs Chief Training and Research Officer gave a presentation on the outline of the center, which was followed by opinion exchange on training courses.
In the opinion exchange, BG ALDEWIKAT expressed his hope for deepened ties in international peace activities between the two countries.

The 2nd Peace Operation Workshop of FY 2020

On August 31, 2020, the Japan Peacekeeping Training and Research Center (JPC) hosted this fiscal yearfs second Peace Operations Workshop, inviting Mr. YAMAZAKI Fumio, Director of the International Peace and Security Cooperation Division, Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a lecturer.
@Under the theme gfuture peacekeeping efforts of MOD/SDFh, the workshop, aimed at acquiring knowledge necessary for training and research on International Peace Cooperation Activities, was attended by personnel of the Secretariat of the International Peace Cooperation Headquarters, Cabinet Office; Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and the Joint Staff as well as the JPC.
@To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, anti-infection measures were taken at the workshop including avoiding the gthree Cfsh and limiting the number of attendees.
After a presentation by the JPC, Mr. YAMAZAKI gave a lecture from a viewpoint of the Foreign Ministry, which was followed by active Q&A and opinion exchange.
Results of this workshop will be reflected in the JPCfs future training and research.

The 1st Peace Operation Workshop FY 2020

On July 6, 2020, the Japan Peacekeeping Training and Research Center (JPC) held this fiscal yearfs first Peace Operations Workshop, inviting Ms. FUJISHIGE Hiromi, associate professor in the Department of International Politics at Aoyama Gakuin University.
@The workshop, aimed at acquiring knowledge necessary for research on international peacekeeping operations, was this time limited to members of the JPC and the Joint Staff, and the lecture was given from a remote location in order to prevent spread of the novel coronavirus infection. An active Q & A session and opinion exchange followed the lecture in line with the theme of the workshop gJapanfs future efforts in international peace cooperation.h
@The JPC will reflect the takeaways from this workshop in its future education and research activities.

Unveiling ceremony of the JPCfs name board

On March 16, 2020, the Japan Peacekeeping Training and Research Center (JPC) held the unveiling ceremony of its newly set up name board.
@As we didnft have our name board on the entrance of Building F1 which is connected with Building F2 where the JPC is located, we newly made and set up the Centerfs name board there.
@The JPC will remain active in its peacekeeping efforts.

Overseas training including at the UN headquarters

From February 23 to 28, 2020, EBISAWA Bune, executive research fellow at the Japan Peacekeeping Training and Research Center (JPC), and two others underwent overseas training in the U.S state of New York including at the UN headquarters.
@In addition to the UN headquarters, they also visited the UN office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the UN University Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR) to exchange opinions on the latest information about UN peacekeeping operations.
@The JPC will make the most use of the results from this training for its training and research activities.

Participation in PKOCB TWG of AAPTC

From Feb. 3 to 7, 2020, Lt. Col. NAKAI Akira, research officer at the Japan Peacekeeping Training and Research Center (JPC) attended the Regional Peacekeeping Operations Capability and Capacity Building Technical Work Group (PKOCB TWG) of the Association of Asia-Pacific Peace Operations Training Centers (AAPTC) hosted in the U.S. state of Hawaii.
@In the meeting, delegates from the U.S. and other participating countries shared the progress of PKO-related capacity building in the Asia-Pacific region, identified assistance needs and exchanged opinions on the future efforts in that field.
@The JPC will reflect the results from this meeting in its training and research activities.
