JPC provides comprehensive education on international peace cooperation activities and effective and high-quality specialized training courses for possible commanders and staff officers to be deployed to international missions including United Nations peace operations
With a recognition that under the new security environment, international peace and stability is directly linked with that of Japan, the idea became dominant that development of training system and structure is indispensable for the Self Defense Forces (SDF) to take the initiative in international peace cooperation activities. In line with this movement, international peace cooperation activities, along with such missions as the nation’s defense and maintenance of public order, have been regarded as one of the SDF’s primary missions ever since 2007.
Following this, reconfirming that day-to-day efforts such as improving various kinds of relevant systems are of great importance to perform the mission, the Ministry of Defense and Defense Forces newly organized the Japan Peacekeeping Training Center under the Joint Staff College in March 2010.
