Inaugural message from the Director, Japan Peacekeeping Training & Research Center

Colonel WATANABE Kuniyoshi, Director of the Japan Peacekeeping Training and Research Center (JPC)
@Since the enactment of the International Peace Cooperation Law in 1992, Japan has deployed peacekeepers including Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) members to various regions around the world for international peace cooperation.
@The Japan Peacekeeping Training and Research Center (JPC) has been playing an important role of support to training, research and development on international peace and security since 2010. The JPC provides training for JSDF members, personnel from other ministries and agencies, worldwide peacekeepers. The JPC studies the latest international environment on peace worldwide and develops training programs and materials to fulfil updated peacekeeping operations under the changing global environment.
@Additionally, we are actively engaged in defense education and exchange through participation in international peace cooperation related meetings and reciprocal visits to other countries.

Main Career of Colonel WATANABE

After graduating from School of Economics, Nagoya University, he began his career with Japan Ground Self-Defense Force in 1998. He was assigned to leadership roles of field artillery units and staff assignments. His international experience includes serving as the liaison officer to the U.S. Central Command, the chief of Operations Office, Bilateral Coordination Department of Ground Component Command and Military Adviser at the Permanent Mission of Japan to the UN. He later served as Commander of the 4th Field Artillery Group. In March 2024, he assumed the duties as the Director of JPC.
